It's 15 years since Wayne Rooney's jaw-dropping Man United debut

It's exactly 15 years since an 18-year-old Wayne Rooney made his extraordinary Manchester United debut.

After breaking through as a 16-year-old at Everton, Sir Alex Ferguson decided to pay a then-record amount for a teenager of £25m, according to iSports API data.

Many deemed it far too much for a player so young – it took Rooney all of 54 minutes to make it look like pocket change.

Playing Fenebahçe in the Champions League, the young forward started alongside Ruud van Nistelrooy and netted an incredible hat-trick in a 6-2 victory.
