Analysis:

Inter Milan and title rivals AC Milan meet at San Siro on Tuesday in the second leg of their Coppa Italia semi-final, separated by only two points in the Serie A standings.

 

Inter Milan

Following last month's dreary 0-0 stalemate in the first leg, the balance between two Calcio powerhouses is carefully poised - albeit Inter have previously captured the Coppa Italia on seven occasions to Milan's five. Following their quarter-final triumph last year, the Nerazzurri went on to win the Scudetto ahead of their closest rivals, and the two teams have remained embroiled in a battle for the big honours this season.

 

AC Milan

The five-time cup champions have only lost two of their past 19 Coppa games at home, and despite being the away team at San Siro this week, Stefano Pioli's side should be confident after overcoming Genoa and Lazio to reach this stage. AC Milan has lately fallen to goalless draws against Bologna and Torino without the talismanic presence of ex-Inter star Zlatan lbrahimovic up front, but were able to squeeze past struggling Genoa on Friday.

 

Prediction

While the away goals rule may influence how both teams approach this game - Milan may be content to sit back and try to score on the break - Inter's larger goal threat is likely to carry them through to the final.
